This mature whitetail buck was harvested in west Texas. Tanned the old school way with brain matter and wood smoke and smoked with Cottonwood.
Labeled and priced as a B+ quality hide only because it doesn’t have the bouncy stretchiness that most finished buckskin has. Like many very old/mature deer hides - this hide is dense and has very little stretch and bounce to it. Beading needle passes through but with a little resistance in certain areas because of the density. I believe the hides from older deer (6-10 year-olds) behave in this way because of years of gradual scar tissue building up. Ideal material for moccasins and suitable for cutting thick water drum rounds.
